Don’t Over Think, Just Do!

I was thinking about this client I once had: She always used to show up late for her sessions and then would spend the few minutes that we did have together planning what we would do in her next session rather than really concentrating on what we were doing at the moment.
I have another client who literally wakes up at 5 am on Saturday mornings, lies in bed and plans everything out–what errands she has to run that day, what training she’s going to do, what she’s going to eat for every meal–only to turn over and go back to sleep. She spends all her energy planning, when really she should just get out of bed and do what needs to be done. She’s over-thinking, over-worrying instead of just doing. This becomes a pattern, and eventually she’s so overwhelmed that she just stops doing the things that are important.
Sound familiar? Then it’s time to change and to start actually doing. Isn’t that what Nike says? Just do it.
I do believe in some pre-planning of course. Get your head around what you’re going to do and prepare the night before. Figure out what you’re going to have for breakfast. Put your gym things out so when you wake up they’re all ready. It will help you to have these things done ahead so you can just get up, get out there and do it!
