Three Months

I always set goals for a five year plan, but I wait till the last minute to make any changes. Recently in a course I am doing, they suggested asking yourself what you want your life to look like in three months; and not waiting until the last minute to start working at it. Each day, do something towards that goal. Of course, for your health and fitness it works well, but even for your personal goals, you should give it a try. Maybe you want educate yourself in art somehow? Go to museums, reads books on art, visit a gallery, listen to a lecture online. It’s amazing how thinking this way really helps! Write down how you want to be, and start it now. Book your sessions ahead, plan your extra steps with a friend, even once a week. Take a bike tour or a walking museum tour. Life is passing by. Don’t waste a single day. Best,...

STOP

Why is it always after a holiday, I feel like I need a holiday? The truth is most holidays aren’t really spent resting. Totally getting out of the routine and structure, over indulging in food, plus not enough exercise makes one feel totally out of sync. Of course, as soon as we get home we get hysterical that everything is not the way it should be. We put so much pressure on ourselves to do everything just right. As a result, we eat even worse and exercise less. Start now. Breathe. Use the part of your brain that says nothing is so important that we cannot take a break. Let me just do the best I can do, and I’ll certainly be the best if I get my exercise in. Once that’s done, I will organize my eating and everything else will follow so easily. Buy yourself a little notebook and write down the things you want to achieve. Cross them off when they done. Do whatever it takes. It is so satisfying! Stop getting so caught up on the drama. It’s really not worth it. Think about the people with the hurricanes on the horizon. That will certainly make you stop. Best,...

Time to Resign

It’s almost 25 yrs since I started this third career, which is a lot longer than some people seem to hold onto jobs nowadays. After speaking to a client that’s struggling with sticking to her healthy eating plan and a 20 pound weight loss, I asked myself how different my life might be if I had kept on a healthy plan in every way myself for the last 25 years. Would that mean I had made no progress? Changes and growth are how I reached where I am today. Yes, it can be a struggle. You can look at it that way or you can realize everything has its path. You can try to fight it but what will be, will be.  You have to do the best that you can on your own path. Look at it just as you would look at your job, something that you’re committed to. Are you just going to stop going to work after a couple of weeks?  If you really hate it, maybe. However, if it’s a struggle but it’s working, you must keep trying. Take some time to think about it, but don’t think to hard. August is here. You have come this far. Don’t give up!! Make the effort, book your sessions, commit to them and to a healthy life.   Best,...

Other people do it..

Today, I had to get up to work in the city, then drive to the Hamptons to work just to turn around and come right back. I can’t exactly say I was excited about the idea. I got to work and was speaking to one of my trainers about their schedule. They told me they could still do a 5:30 AM shift, but they would just need to arrive at the gym by 3:00am It made me rethink my day and really, how bad was it? I got to the Hamptons early. I got a little sun time and a little workout time. I got to train three new clients who were all amazing. Then, before I headed back to the city I stopped and played nine holes. Now, as I write this, the sunlight is still out. There was no traffic on my drive home. I did not have to get to work at 3:00am and I’ll be home by 9:00pm. The truth is other people have worse days than ours. We can choose to look at our days as bad or we can look at it positively and think about all of those who don’t get to have the days we have. Get up a little earlier and get your workout in. Then, you still have a wonderful day ahead of you. Best,...

Change

I know that I don’t like change, but when I do finally do it, I am very good at it. I went to two classes this week, both based on what I see as making myself a better person. One of the classes spoke about how we may resist change, but when it happens, we cannot understand why we didn’t make the change sooner. I have a client who had 5:30am sessions with me. She finally tried a session at 7:00am because she had no other choice. She never wants to come in earlier again. At 71 years old, there’s no need to be up at 5:00am. She can finally see how much better this change is for her. Try it! If it’s not right. nothing is lost. Today, switch up your workouts. Bike if you always walk, take on a challenging exercise. Try the change, even working with a different trainer. Ask us about our new trainers and see if they might be a great change for you! Best,...
